Using Steno

Steno is a personal writing utility. You are responsible for reviewing the content you dictate, rewrite, edit, copy, paste, export, or share from it.

Use Steno only where you are allowed to record speech. Laws and workplace rules may require you to tell people or get their consent before recording them.

Purchases

Steno is distributed through the Mac App Store. Purchase, refund, availability, and update delivery are handled by Apple under the Apple terms that apply to your Mac App Store account.

Local content

Steno is designed to keep dictation, Profile Rewrite, history, settings, and diagnostics on your Mac. You control what you copy, paste, export, or send to other apps after Steno creates a transcript.

App output

Transcripts and rewrites may contain mistakes. Review Steno's output before relying on it or sending it to someone else, especially in sensitive or important situations.
